FAQ
Do I need to be pre-approved before shopping for homes?
Yes. Being pre-approved is an essential first step in the home-buying process. A pre-approval letter will help establish a price range and give you the necessary tools to make an offer on a property.
How much money do I need to have saved to buy a home?
Depending on your financial standing, you can purchase a property with as little as 3% down. However, there are other costs associated with purchasing a home known as “closing costs”, which encompass your inspection, title fees, mortgage fees, and other miscellaneous costs. In general, you should budget 3-5% for closing costs in addition to your down payment.
How long does it take to buy a home?
The home-buying process can take as little as 3 months. A lot of that depends on your motivation level. The Pre-approval process takes 2-3 weeks and closing generally takes 30-45 days after a purchase contract has been signed.
What kind of credit score do I need to purchase a home?
A credit score of 620 or higher is recommended. However, you may be able to qualify with a lower score. Having a higher credit score usually means better lending terms. Talk to a mortgage professional about your options!
